74HC14 Hex Schmitt Trigger Inverters aka NOT Gates IC

74HC14 integrated circuit (IC) is the high speed CMOS (HC) version of the 7400 IC.

NOT gates (digital inverters) output the opposite as what is input.

A high input of close to 5V, will result in a low output of close to 0V.

Whereas, a Low input of close to 0V, will result in a high output of close to 5V.

Other voltages can be used with logic gates.


74HC14 IC properties:

  • Recommended voltage for powering the 74HC14 is 2V to 6V.
  • Each output should be limited to sinking or sourcing no more than 25mA of current, not exceeding the total output limit. That means that the IC outputs can be used to power at least 2 LEDs with current limiting resistors.
  • Total combined output current should not exceed 50mA of current. 2 outputs can source 25mA of current, 5 outputs can source 10mA of current, etc.
