P Channel MOSFET almost no forward voltage diode reverse polarity protection from power source

It is often desirable or necessary to allow electric current to flow in one direction but not the other. The common rectifier or schottky diode will often work just fine. However, the MOSFET may make a better diode substitute.

Normally rectification is done close to the properly connected positive side of the power supply. Therefore, you will find the P channel MOSFET used more than the N channel MOSFET for this purpose.
