J310 JFET N channel depletion transistor
J310 JFET is a N channel depletion transistor component. It conducts current from drain to source (Ids) until enough of a negative gate terminal voltage is applied to cutoff the current. The J310 I have been testing cuts off at around -3V at the gate in relation to the source (Vgs).
- Drain – Connects to more positive side of the circuit.
- Source – Connects to more negative side of the circuit.
- Gate – Uses a voltage in relationship to Source to control Drain to Source current.
The Gate should not be brought to more than +0.5V of the Source, as it will start conducting as a diode. The gate is P type material, and the Source to Drain area (channel) is N type material. The datasheet I reviewed give a maximum forward current Gate (Igs) current of 10mAdc.

The IDSS is the maximum current that will flow from the JFET drain to source, which is while the gate is at the same voltage as the source (Zero-Gate-Voltage drain current).
